What Makes Your Heart Sing?
Not what pays the bills. Not what wins applause. But what wakes you up inside.
Sometimes, I forget.
Not because I’m ungrateful.
But because life has a way of piling up like unopened mail.
Deadlines. Notifications. Obligations.
And before long, you’re doing things you don’t remember choosing.
Succeeding at things you never really wanted.
Until one day, you pause,
Maybe in the middle of a worship set,
Or while watching a stranger laugh so freely,
Or during a walk where your phone finally dies
And the question sneaks up on you like an old friend:
What makes your heart sing?
Not what looks good on your CV.
Not what gets the most likes.
Not what makes your parents proud.
But the thing that animates you.
The thing that makes you forget to check the time.
Maybe it’s making music.
Maybe it’s hearing someone say “I feel seen.”
Maybe it’s teaching a hard truth with grace.
Maybe it’s writing words that make someone whisper yes, that’s exactly it.
Maybe it’s mentoring. Or creating. Or praying. Or planning.
Maybe it’s just being in rooms where light breaks through.
For me? It’s when something clicks,
In a mind.
In a heart.
In a moment.
It’s when truth meets timing.
When God meets someone in their confusion and I get to play a tiny part.
It’s when someone chooses healing.
It’s when a thought becomes a sermon.
That’s when my heart sings.
And maybe yours sings in other keys.
Maybe it’s when you build.
Or nurture.
Or open your hands and give something away.
Whatever it is, don’t lose it.
Don’t trade it for applause.
Don’t silence it for survival.
Don’t numb it with noise.
Because that song?
It’s not just your joy.
It’s your assignment.

Thank you for the nudge.
You’re a blessing.
